What's Liz Phair's problem?
Exile in Guyville was an amazing album for me and sooo many other people. I had a cassette tape of it and literally played it until it broke. Why is it not on iTunes? I've read that she's like embarrassed about that album and that it's not really what she's all about anymore. I don't care! Get that shit on iTunes!
wtf???

It is too bad that itunes doesn't have Exile, but, in their favor, they have the really great "itunes originals" that she did, talking about her writing process and what her experience was. I've been a huge Liz Phair since I first heard "6'1"", and I think she is one of the most underrated songwriters ever. Joan Jett and Chrissie Hynde were rocking before Liz (as well as plenty of others), but noone rocked like her. You knew she liked to fuck, but she would not be fucked with. Her ability to be rough, funny, vulgar and honest was a revelation for me. I'm amazed that the same person wrote "Divorce Song", "Stratford-on-Guy", "Shitloads of Money", "Polyester Bride", "Supernova", never mind her new albums, which I think are uneven. (But some of the songs are incredibly powerful and poignant, especially "Friend of Mine", "Table for One" and the unreleased "Down").
Jeez, and I thought I was longwinded in real life.

Hi... great to see you on LJ. Exile in Guyville is one of of my favorites... that album was so interesting to a friend ("Women just usually don't express themselves this way" is a paraphrase of his recommendation) that he recommended her album to me, which really kicked me further in my haphazard collection of various female-lead independent rock bands... which eventually lead me to enjoy the local talents of Storm Large, Stephanie Smith, and you.

hey morgan...i played that cassette till it broke too. Then I saw her play more recently (like 2004 maybe) in NYC and she was wearing this horrible underwear-ish outfit (totally not age appropriate) and singing shitty songs and I had to just leave. She's CHANGED!
